The Inaugural Percy Shelley Poetry Slam

Hosted and with performances by Santo Cazzati and Benjamin Solah
Open Themed Slam with Feature Poets / Tuesday, March 13 from 7.30pm / Dexter/Cafe Bar, 123 Queens Parade, Clifton Hill (map)
/ $10 Entry

The Inaugural Percy Shelley Poetry Slam, set to be held on March 13, is an open slam celebrating and encouraging left-wing and progressive political spoken word and poetry, inspired by radical poets such as Percy Bysshe Shelley in the format of the traditional anti-competition poetry slams born out of Chicago construction workers in the 80s.

With silly prizes, meaningless scores, the point is the poetry and it’s open to both new and experienced poets who want to take to the stage to express their desires for economic and social justice. All you need to do is sign up on the night, or participate as an active audience member.

The slam is also a fundraiser for the Marxism 2012 conference in Easter, where co-host Santo Cazzati will perform the poetry of Pablo Neruda alongside 3 and a bit days of left-wing history, theory and discussion that even includes a bit of art!
