The State Library of Victoria have announced the upcoming Victorian heats of the 2015 Australian Poetry Slam. Five heats will take place across Victoria, with only two of those being within greater Melbourne. Bendigo, Wangaratta, Moonee Valley, Sydenham and Yarram will host heats from August 14 to September 5, with the Victorian Final taking place at the State Library on the 11th of September.
Spoken word artist and host of Slamalamadingdong, Michelle Dabrowski will host the heats and the Victorian Final, and perform alongside the winners of the Out Loud schools poetry competition.
First and second place from the state final will go on to compete in the national final at the Sydney Opera House on October 11, with around $12,000 worth of prizes up grabs including a tour of China.
Brendan Reed Dennis took out last year’s Victorian Final, with previous winners of the national slam including Luka Lesson, Omar Musa and Zohab Zee Khan, many of those have taken winning the APS to launch big careers in poetry and spoken word.
