We accept submissions and pitches for articles, reviews, interviews, commentary and critical discussion all year round. We also accept audio recordings of spoken Word for our Audacious audio-journal within the submission periods. We do not accept poetry or content from people outside of Victoria.
You can also post books or CDs for review to PO Box 3, Brunswick West VIC 3055. Please note we cannot guarantee they’ll be reviewed and cannot be returned. Please only send us things for review if you are active in the Melbourne Spoken Word scene.
Please note, unless otherwise stated, most events listed on our events page are not curated or run by Melbourne Spoken Word, the organisation, but hard working individuals who run their events independently. We can sometimes pass enquiries about events onto the relevant people.
Unless you’re an international or interstate poet, we generally do not accept requests to perform at events hosted by Melbourne Spoken Word and are usually by invitation only. MSW’s purpose is to support and promote the spoken word community as a whole. It is our general stance to reward both excellence in the craft and community involvement, including a broad spectrum of what defines ‘spoken word’ in terms of style and background. If you’re interested in featuring, we encourage you to keep going to open mic and supporting poetry and spoken word events both as audience and participant. We go to these things (we love them) and are always looking out for interesting performers.
