SLAMALAMADINGDONG’s JAM SLAM Featuring Ren Alessandra
November 21 @ 4:30 pm - 8:30 pm$10 – $25
Slama acknowledges that our slam takes place in Naarm, on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded, no treaty was signed and it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
2021 is wrapping up and Slamalamadingdong wants nothing more than to gather again, reflect on all the effort our community has put in, and of course slam our hearts out!
To close out the year we are bringing back our iconic JAM SLAM!
Sunday 21st November @ Carlton Gardens, 5:00pm
Featuring Ren Alessandra
JAM SLAM is all about breaking free and stretching those creative muscles.
Want to collaborate with a musician? JAM SLAM IT!
Want to compete with a group poem? JAM SLAM IT!
Want to perform a poem that contains props and goes for 3.5 minutes? JAM SLAM IT!
We want you to compete with whatever your creative juices desire, but within a 4-minute time limit. There will be a basic tech set up (with a small amp and microphone suited better for acoustic instruments and an organic multidisciplinary approach, if you catch our drift. Complex tech will be a challenge as we will be outdoors with limited to no power supply.) so please get in touch if you need any specific requirements.
As always there are multiple ways you can enjoy this event:
As a poet $5: arrive at 4:30pm to put your name on the signup list!
Only a few feet away $25 (IN THE FLESH),
From the comfort of your own couch on our live stream $20 (COUCH COMFY).
On-demand whenever you choose $10 (REPLAY LOVE)
We always want to make our event as accessible as possible. If you need a concession price, please get in touch!
BYO picnic blanket or outdoor seating.
Please note: In alignment with the current Victorian Government regulations, all physical attendees (poets and audience members) need to be completed vaccinated and be able to provide evidence to support this.
Our feature for this creative and warming event is the wonderful Ren Alessandra!
Ren Alessandra is in her age of expansion after winning the 2020 Australian Poetry Slam Championship. During a year of slam successes, she was nominated for the Melbourne Spoken Word Prize in 2019, won the 2020 Bellingen Slam, was a finalist in The Bunker Spoken Word Prize and has featured regularly around Melbourne and (online) internationally. She was the Artist in Resident for The Weekly Service during Spring of 2020, featuring extensively in the 2020 Melbourne Spoken Word Festival and is currently judging the 2022 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Poetry.
Wordcraft is the name under which she hosts her own spoken word events and workshops in Melbourne. A teacher and advocate, she shares the power of poetry in schools and council programs. Her poetry has been commissioned by TAFE NSW, Federation Square and Rotary International, with many more in the works. She has most recently published her second chapbook Blueprint Body, where she explores her narrative as a modern woman and self-love in all its colours. She has been published in the 2020 Poetry D’Amour Anthology and the Pocketry Almanack. You can join her at @renalessandrapoetry – this is her life’s work, and it has only just begun.
