One of Australia’s most successful performance poets, Joel McKerrow, will perform his evocative and passionate poetry for thirty minutes, followed by a one hour workshop perfect for both beginners and long-time poets.

Joel McKerrow is a writer, speaker, educator, community arts worker and one of Australia’s most successful internationally touring performance poets. He is the Artist Ambassador for the aid and development organisation ‘TEAR Australia’ and was the third ever Australian representative at the Individual World Poetry Slam Championships.

Zaynab G Farah, winner of November’s Slamalamadingdong performs She is Light at The Melba Spiegeltent.
Zaynab is a Melbourne-based Spoken word artist. Driven to support and give back to her community; her pieces explore intricate personal experiences and topics that she’s very passionate about. Zaynab has performed on various platforms, which include both community and local events.
Winner of September’s slam, Zuleyha Gurdag, performs ‘Woman’ at Slamalamadingdong on September 26, 2018 at The Melba Spiegeltent.
Zuleyha is a Melbourne born and raised poet who takes pride in her Turkish heritage and Australian nationality. Her passion and goal is to raise awareness of intersectionality and empower Muslim youth, particularly women, from the stereotypes and stigmas that surround them. For the long term run, she hopes to become a gynaecologist to advocate female independence and power in disadvantaged communities to change the gender roles accustomed to the people in her community and inspire women to reclaim their rights and increase their knowledge. In her spare time, she enjoys writing poetry, spending time with her cat and educating herself on interfaith dialogue and her Turkish history.
